What Rendered
A serene elder woman, deeply lined, braids falling to her waist. Her eyes are closed — she does not need to look. The full moon blazes behind her head, its surface crossed with fine mycelium-like root lines. Two corn stalks flank her as pillars: left stalk golden-ripe (summer), right stalk deep blue-black and spent (winter). Spanish moss hangs between them like a veil. In her hands, a deep woven basket holds the night sky — rendered with genuine depth, as if the basket is a portal. The Pleiades visible above. Her robe is midnight blue with intricate geometric beadwork showing corn-kernel patterns and downward-pointing triangles in silver thread. Moon-phase medallions run the length of both borders.
Cosmological Teaching
Selu and her husband Kanati had two sons who watched her secretly and discovered she produced corn by rubbing her body over a basket. Knowing she had been seen, Selu told her sons: Kill me. Drag my body across a field seven times. Whatever grows, tend it. This is my gift to you. The sons dragged her only twice — which is why corn does not grow everywhere. Three teachings: mystery does not disappear when seen, it changes form. Sacrifice as pedagogy — she arranges her own transformation into food. The basket that holds the sky: the primary feminine sacred object, active and patterned, not passive.
Initiatory Meaning
A.’.A.’. current: The 13th Path — the Moon path, the path of Gimel, the camel that crosses the desert between Crown and Beauty. The HGA in Na-Dené terms is the ancestral intelligence — the Corn Mother who lives in the body, in the blood, in the cellular memory of the lineage. The K&C is not a vision but a recognition.
OTO/EGC current: The High Priestess is the Silver Star, the Shekinah. Selu at the altar, holding the basket/paten that contains the cosmos, is an almost perfect Na-Dené gloss on the Gnostic Mass Priestess. The mysteries ripen. Do not force the husk.
Divination Meanings
Upright / Well-Dignified: Something is known that cannot yet be spoken. Trust the knowing that does not yet have words. Be still. The teaching is already in you; you are waiting for the right field, the right season, to let it grow.
Key phrases: Hidden knowing. Sacred patience. The mystery that ripens. Ancestral wisdom. The answer already present, awaiting season.
Reversed / Ill-Dignified: The mystery forced before its time — the corn dragged only twice. Knowledge shared prematurely, or withheld past its useful season. What are you failing to transmit? What are you failing to receive?
Key phrases: Premature revelation. Knowledge hoarded past usefulness. Silence become secrecy. The teaching not given.

Selu knew she was seen and did not run. She chose the terms of her own transformation. What mystery in you has been seen — by others, by life, by time — that you can no longer keep hidden in the old way? What does it want to become now that the basket is open? And: what are you holding that belongs to others? Not because it was taken from you, but because you grew it from your own body, and it is time now to drag it across the field and let it become food?
