Cosmological Teaching
In Cherokee tradition, the Sun is female and the Moon is her male brother — reversed from the European convention. The original myth: the Sun was angry because humans grimaced at her brightness while smiling at the Moon. She sent disease. The people had to perform the first ceremony — the first dance — to make her laugh. The mediating Two-Spirit figure hovering above is the ceremony itself: the third thing that can only exist when the two meet. The solar eclipse is the cosmological event when Sun and Moon briefly merge. It is sacred and dangerous simultaneously. The river flowing toward the viewer: the sacred union flows toward the querent, not away.
Initiatory Meaning
A.’.A.’. current: The mystical marriage in Na-Dené terms is not between the initiate and an external divine being but between the solar and lunar aspects of the initiate’s own consciousness — requiring a mediating function. The Two-Spirit figure hovering above is the capacity for mediation made visible. The eclipse happens when the two natures are in exact proportion. You cannot force it.
OTO/EGC current: The mediating figure is the Priest/ess who stands between Nuit (Moon Woman) and Hadit (Sun Man). The eclipse point without being consumed by either. This is the specific function of EGC clergy: to stand in the eclipse without going blind.
Divination Meanings
Upright / Well-Dignified: A sacred conjunction — two forces that have been kept in separate skies are briefly occupying the same point. The mediating figure — the part of yourself that can hold both without flinching — is what needs to be active now. A choice: not between Sun and Moon, but between the life that keeps them separated and the ceremony that allows them to meet.
