The Prince rides a dark red horse at full gallop through a shallow river crossing, the horse’s legs throwing sheets of water that catch the light of the burning forest behind them both. The entire left half of the card is fire — trees blazing at the treeline, the sky above them a roiling column of smoke and flame, the world behind the rider on fire. He is moving away from it at speed toward the right half of the card: a calm river valley with tipis at dusk, the encampment visible and peaceful on the far bank. In his raised right hand: a heavy wand topped with a jagged, faceted crystal blazing with the same orange light as the forest fire at his back — the crystal is clearly carrying the fire rather than simply being illuminated by it, a transmission device, not a torch. His face is turned forward and slightly down, reading the terrain ahead while aware of the inferno behind. The horse’s regalia is elaborate — beaded breast collar with pendant dreamcatcher medallion, a circular target emblem on the horse’s flank, the same design element that appeared on the Nine of Wands’ shield and the Eight’s target medallion. The medallion strip shows a bundle of lit staves — the first time multiple wands are shown burning simultaneously, marking this card’s transmission purpose.

The river crossing is the card’s most important compositional element. The Prince rides through cold water while carrying hot fire — he is the living bridge between the two. The astrological cusp of 20° Cancer to 20° Leo is precisely this crossing: the emotional depths of Cancer, where fire first finds its domestic warmth, giving way to Leo’s public, sovereign, blazing declaration. The Prince of Wands is the intellect seized by a genuine, overwhelming will, and the danger is the exact same as the fire’s: Air feeds Fire without discrimination, and a Prince in motion will amplify whatever he carries, good or destructive, without modulating for consequence.
For the initiate: This is the grade of the message that must be delivered and the simultaneous recognition that your delivery method might be the fire itself. The crystal wand carries the flame — but the Prince is also riding through the river, which means he is capable of cooling what he carries if he chooses to. The question is whether he chooses.

Upright / Well-Dignified: Swift, expansive, forward momentum carrying real fire toward a destination that needs it. The energy is genuine, the message is urgent, the horse will not be stopped.
